PNOAC Day 3: Moreno outguns Matan in national archery tournament

CEBU, Philippines – Luis Gabriel Moreno, the country’s first Youth Olympic gold medalist, survived a thrilling shootout against Florante Matan to snare the gold medal in the senior recurve’s Olympic medal round during the penultimate day of the 2016 Philippine National Outdoor Archery Championships and ranking at the San Pedro Calungsod Templete at the South Road Properties yesterday.

Matan forged ashoot-off after winning the last set, 28-20, but Moreno bounced back to end the battle at 9-6. Moreno also avenged his loss to Matan during the qualifying round.

In the distaff side, Rachelle Ann dela Cruz won the gold over La Union’s Mary Queen Ybanez, 6-2.

Cebuano bets in Vincent Villa and Rogelio Miguel Tremedal settled for a 2-3 finish behind Quezon’s Atanacio Pellicer in the junior recurve’s Olympic round.

Decorated Cebuano archer Rosendo ‘Dondon’ Sombrio reigned supreme in the compound master division during the qualifying round.

University of Baguio’s Loren Chloe Balaoing who also topped the qualifying battle and was too much for Nicole Marie Tagle in the Olympic medal round, 6-0.

Ferdinand Adriano won the compound category’s men’s Olympic round with 140 points against Paul Marton dela Cruz with 135, while Benel’s Andrea Lucia Robles dominated the women’s class with 132 as Amaya Paz Cojuangco placed second with 129 points.

The qualifying battle in the compound event saw Jose Ferdinand Adriano and Amaya Paz Cojuangco winning their respective divisions.
