PNOAC Day 1: Manila archers dominate national tourney

MANILA archers carted three of the nine gold medals at stake in the first day of competitions of the 2016 Philippine National Outdoor Archery Championship, Philippine Ranking and 2016 Olympic Trial 1 at the San Pedro Calungsod templete in the South Road Properties yesterday.

Jonathan Ebbinghans Reaport of the Gandiva Archery Club bagged the gold medal in the Boys Recurve Cub after scoring a total of 307 points, while Julia Denise Ongchoco, also of Gandiva Archery, scored a total of 291 points to win the Girls Recurve Cadet competition.

Khalil Abella of the Cebu Archery Club finished second to Reaport with 277, while Mary Joy Belvestre, also of Cebu Archery Club, won the silver medal after scoring 265 points.

Max Gotuaco beat his teammate Jared Ongking from the Manila Polo Club by a solitary point, 326 against 325, to bag the Boys Recurve Bowman cateroy while John Carlo Loreno of City of Koronadal Archery Club collared the bronze medal after collecting a total of 312 points.

Cebu winners

Cebuanos also had their share of glory after winning three gold medals in the introductory Recurve PVC boys and girls category medals as well as the Girls Recurve Yeoman category.

August Jay Maban and Herrah Bless Gato won the gold medals in the PVC bow category competition with Gabriel James Siton and Thrisia Chavez winning the silver medals. John Maxie Ga and Vaniza Quijada bagged the bronzes. All of them are from Guadalupe Elementary School, while Stephanie Jan Pachico of the Cebu Archery Club bagged the gold in the Recurve Yeoman category.

The girls gold medal in the Recurve Bowman event went to Adrienne Ysabel Parayno of Eastern La Trinidad Archery Club of Benguet, who fired a total of 304 points to win the gold medal. Precious Micah Basadre and Daniel Bernardo of Koronadal taking the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Ma. Ferimi Gleam Bajado of Siliman University of Dumaguete City was the runaway winner of the Girls Recurve Cub gold after firing a total of 306 points, which was 73 points ahead of the silver medal winner Khalin Ablla of the Divine Angels Learning and Development School of Mabolo, Cebu City who had 263 points as Xyril Lyx Colque of Koronadal bagged the bronze medal with her 258 points.

In the Boys Recurve Cadet competition, Kirk John Jave Bien of Polomolok Archery Club bested Matthew Joseph Ang of Manila Polo Club for the gold medal outscoring the latter by only four points 285 to 281 as Daryll Maaba of Tangub City Archery Team had 275 to win the bronze medal.
